25 Tips For Self-Care

By: Chelsy Swackhamer

Feeling stressed or overwhelmed lately? It’s troubling times all across the globe currently. As we continue practicing social distancing and social isolation it can be a real mental and physical challenge for many of us. As humans, we are social beings (some of us more social than others). We thrive on human connection and interaction.

Many of our lives have changed quickly and unexpectedly. Our home environment has now become both a school and workplace. So you should hit that pause button. Take a moment to stop and ask yourself “ hey, what do I need right now,”.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practicing good self-care works to keep you mentally present. It’s all about finding that time for relaxation and doing things that bring you joy. Self-care also helps you maintain a good relationship with yourself and others. Although you might not think it now, self-care is essential for your overall wellbeing.

Take that 5-minutes to reflect on your day, and reflect on what you need. Our busy schedules have made it difficult in the past to find the time we need for ourselves. Now more than ever is the perfect time to start focusing on self-care.

Here are 25 Tips to get you started!

  • Read a book (possibly a self-growth).
  • Go for a walk or run outside.
  • Watch your favorite movie.
  • Put on an outfit that makes you feel good.
  • Drink a cup of tea or coffee.
  • Put on some music and dance around the house.
  • Drink more water.
  • Learn something new (maybe a language or new skill).
  • Listen to a podcast.
  • Take a break from social media.
  • Organize your home or office space.
  • Try yoga and meditation.
  • Stretch.
  • Remember to take breaks.
  • Journal/write down 5 things that make you happy.
  • Sleep - a full 8 hours.
  • Try a new recipe.
  • Set some goals for this month or week. Set some for today.
  • Open up your blinds - let in natural light.
  • Delete unnecessary apps from your phone.
  • Call and check up on somebody you haven't spoken to for a while.
  • Clear out old photos/videos from your phone.
  • Organize your computer files.
  • Start a DIY project.
  • Create a morning routine.

The goal is…

The goal is to make self-care a part of your daily routine. Start finding that time for you and the things that bring you joy. Start reading that book you’ve been wanting to. Try that yoga class you’ve been putting off. Just remember to take a break now and then. Giving yourself 5 minutes to clear your mind and re-energize your body can go a long way. Even 3 minutes can be enough, it’s done the SMART WAY.
